A woman who was repeatedly raped by her own father from being 10 years of age and who bore his baby has been awarded £160,000 in sexual abuse compensation after Bradford Council in West Yorkshire admitted they were responsible for breaching their duty of care.

The woman has not been named but Bradford Council has accepted fault because Social Services failed to give her the protection she needed from her father during 7 years of child abuse.

Expertise and Understanding from Carter & Carter Solicitors

The abuse claim was exposed and her father was jailed for 19 years at Bradford Crown Court in 2012.  He was convicted of 8 charges of rape and 2 child cruelty charges relating to his daughters after the Court was told how he hit his daughters with a leather belt, a slipper and a cricket bat and only offering to stop the violence if the had sex with him.  His daughter who was awarded the abuse compensation said:

“I love my son, but it’s so hard to bond with him properly.  Every time I look at him I see my dad. It makes parenting harder. I wouldn’t change his being here, but I am totally torn by my feelings. I just wish he had another father.”

Chronology of Child Abuse

The child abuse began when the girl turned 10 in 1999.  Just a few days later her father began assaulting her up to 3 times per week when her mother was working.  She finally built up the courage to tell her mother about the child abuse in 2002 but sadly was not believed.

Undeterred, 12 months later in 2003, she happened to see a police community support officer whilst out walking, stopped them in the street and reported the child abuse again.  She was put under a Protection Order, was sent to live at a children’s home and her father was charged with rape.  At the Trial, he was found not guilty and so the girl was sent back to live with her family.

After moving back into the family home she became pregnant by her father as a result of the child abuse but had an abortion.  Unbeknownst to her just a fortnight later she was removed from the Child Protection Register.

Social Services

Five weeks after having her father’s baby aborted, she again informed a Social Worker that her father was still physically and sexually abusing her again but sadly, the Social Worker closed the case as the father had been found not guilty of sexual assault at his recent Trial.
