Newly married Matthew and Rebecca Lott became ill just days after landing in the Dominican Republic on their Honeymoon.
Their fate? Crippling holiday food poisoning
Their troubles started within days of arriving at the plush Caribe Princess Resort 5* Hotel which they booked as aPackage Holiday with Thomson Holidays, part of TUI UK. The couple were shocked to find undercooked food and raw chicken being served as well as flies and birds flying round the restaurants. They were understandably deeply upset by the whole affair given it was a once in a lifetime Honeymoon.

Matthew Lott said:
“We’d had a perfect wedding day, it was everything we’d hoped for, but now our lasting memory of such a special time in our lives is clouded by the honeymoon, which was just a disaster.”
“We were concerned about the conditions at the hotel and both of us suffered from horrendous symptoms throughout our honeymoon and even now we are still suffering from on-going illness which has had a huge impact on our lives.”
What have Thomson Holidays said?
Thomson’s spokesperson said:
“We are sorry to hear of the Lotts’ experience at the Caribe Princess Resort in the Dominican Republic this summer. Thomson closely audits all resorts to which we operate to ensure that health, hygiene and comfort levels are maintained in line with industry standards. As this case is now subject to legal proceedings it would be inappropriate for us to comment further.”
Understandably the couple want holiday food poisoning compensation after their doomed Honeymoon in June 2014.
The compensation will be paid by the Insurers of Thomson Holidays who were the Tour Operator if they accept blame for the couple’s holiday food poisoning compensation claims. Even though the holiday was in the Caribbean, this type of claim is very straightforward to make against the Tour Operator in the UK as it was booked as a Package Holiday.
