What has happened?

Paint thinner chemicals have been found in batches of Lidl gravy granules 7 days before Christmas so Lidl has recalled 300g packets of Kania Gravy Granules for meat and chicken with best before dates of October 2017 & November 2017.

Mr Eugene Vatsaloo, from Tonyrefail in South Wales told the Independent paper:

“I had a real bad back pain as well as passing blood for two days. The doctor told me the bleeding was from burning in the stomach. I waited five or six days before I saw the doctor, as I thought I had food poisoning and it took two days to get an appointment. Had I known, I would have gone to A&E straight away.”

Food Standards Agency Website

The FSA website says:

“Exposure to xylene in food products represents a health risk as it can cause adverse effects such as headache, dizziness, nausea and vomiting. The contaminant levels in this product exceed those set to minimise this risk and the product is therefore being recalled as a precaution.”
