Port Vale football fan deliberately run over
On 13th April 2013, a Port Vale football fan was run over by a car outside Rochdale Train Station which was being driven by a Rochdale supporter. A man has already been arrested and one fan who was hit by the car has suffered what has been described as serious head injuries.
Detective Inspector Dave Sinclair of Rochdale Police said:
“Officers are currently working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, but it is believed that this is linked to an altercation that occurred earlier outside the Commercial Public House on Lower Tweedale Street in Rochdale.”
One eyewitness commented:
“Me and three mates got to Rochdale train station about 2.40pm on Saturday and ordered a taxi. While we were waiting, a red car with three men inside, which I assumed at first was a taxi, sped into the rank and drove into the Port Vale fans. It was probably travelling at around 40mph. The car then sped off and the driver had a grin on his face. There were a lot of police milling around whilst all of this was going on, one of them called an ambulance which arrived pretty quickly.”
What Do The Specialists Say?
David Healey from Carter & Carter Solicitors in Stockport commented on this latest incident earlier:
“Sadly, this isn’t the first time that a car has been used as a weapon by a driver in Rochdale. We can only hope that the fan makes a swift recovery after this tragic and avoidable incident.
We have acted for numerous people who have been injured as a result of being hit by a car but by far the vast majority have not been deliberately driven at. Victims can suffer serious physical injuries and also longstanding psychological effects which can last for years.
In this case, any injured parties will be able to make an accident compensation claim against the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority and the driver’s Insurers.”
