The All England Club has denied that the Wimbledon courts are too slippery for the tennis players after a number if slip trip and fall claims. On what has been described as Wounded Wednesday 8 tennis players withdrew with injuries in one day after suffering sport injuries.

Head groundsman Neil Stubley said:
“We’ve prepared the courts the same as we have in previous years. The soils are the same, the grass is the same, our height of play is the same. We have prepared them and on our stats it’s showing that the courts are playing exactly the same as they were in previous years.”

Richard Lewis, chief executive of the All England Club, said:
“Many players have complimented the very good condition of the courts. The court preparation has been to exactly the same meticulous standard as in previous years and it is well known that grass surfaces tend to be more lush at the start of an event. The factual evidence, which is independently checked, is that the courts are almost identical to last year, as dry and firm as they should be, and we expect them to continue to play to their usual high quality.”
